Photobucket

In striving to provide audiences with the highest quality at the best possible value, Radical Publishing is introducing a revolutionary new book format to our readers.

Radical has made it a company mandate to set trends—not follow them—and while we fulfill our goal to produce cutting-edge stories with gorgeous artwork, we also believe in keeping our products at an affordable price.

Radical is proud to announce our new “Bigger Books! Bigger Value!” campaign. Starting in August, we will be doubling, even tripling, our page count to bring you more story, more art, more pages…all for less money. For only $4.99 (just a dollar more than what the other publishers often charge for only 22 story pages), you are getting more than two issues worth of story. Whether it’s a 56-page Incarnate from Nick Simmons (A&E’s Gene Simmons Family Jewels), a 64-page October debut of FVZA: Federal Vampire and Zombie Agency from David Hine (Civil War: X-Men) or a 72-page Earp: Saints for Sinners, our modern reinvention of the Wyatt Earp legend, from Matt Cirulnick and M. Zachary Sherman (Shrapnel: Aristeia Rising) the price will be the same for every single one of these issues: $4.99—and they’ll all have the top-notch quality and production values you’ve come to expect from the Radical name brand.

Be a part of the revolution: Bigger Books! Bigger Value! Only $4.99! Now that’s Radical.

DAVID WOHL JOINS RADICAL AS NEW EDITOR-IN-CHIEF

In a bold new shift in direction, Radical Comics has brought on former Top Cow President and Editor-In-Chief David Wohl as their new Editor-In-Chief. Wohl replaces former Radical Editor-In-Chief Dave Elliott, who will continue at Radical in the new position of Special Projects Editor.

With over twenty years of experience in the industry, David Wohl was responsible for bringing numerous fan-favorite Top Cow titles to the shelves, co-creating and writing The Darkness, Aphrodite IX as well as the critically acclaimed Witchblade franchise, even serving as the producer of the Witchblade television series. “Ever since Radical burst on the scene, I was instantly impressed by their talent roster, the consistent high level of quality and their commitment to putting out great comics. When the opportunity arose to come onboard, I didn’t even need to give it a second thought. From top to bottom, Radical Publishing is the class of the industry, and I’m proud to be part of the team.” stated Wohl.

Wohl’s enthusiasm for joining the Radical family was echoed by the company’s President and Publisher Barry Levine. “David brings a wealth of experience in the industry to our relatively new company and everyone here is very excited to have him on board,” remarked Levine. “With our recent Gem Award for ‘Best New Publisher’ and a lineup of upcoming titles featuring the likes of Rick Remender, David Hine and Nick Simmons for the year, David is the guy to help take Radical to that next level.”

As Wohl helps to continue Radical’s success by assuming the responsibilities of Editor-In-Chief, former Radical Editor-In-Chief Dave Elliott will be taking on the new position of Radical’s Special Projects editor. This integral new position will have Elliott applying his vast publishing experience and love of comics to both finding and developing new projects for Radical while working closely with existing key talent on current projects such as Steve Niles’ follow-up to City of Dust and the second chapter of Sam Sarkar’s Caliber.

"With Radical growing in leaps and bounds, I just couldn't continue doing the job from New York any longer. We needed our man in Havana and I'm really happy it's David,” says Elliott. “My focus will be to continue to bring in the best talent out there while also allowing me to get back to my creative roots. I'll be co-writing CALIBER and the next PHILIP KHROME story with Sam Sarkar and Steve Niles. These are two worlds that I have gotten to know very well and am extremely happy to be allowed to further contribute to them."

NEW REGENCY ADDS FUEL TO RADICAL’S FREEDOM FORMULA

New Regency adds fuel to Radical’s Freedom Formula

March 24th, 2009 – Set in the future where mechanized battle armor is used for high speed sport, Freedom Formula quickly made headlines across the film and comic industry during the 2008 San Diego Comic-Con International event when Variety reported that Bryan Singer (X-Men, Superman Returns) was attached to produce, with an eye to potentially direct, a film based on the underlying comic series. Today Variety has announced that New Regency has acquired Freedom Formula with a writer attached.

Mike Finch, who just sold his spec script, Medieval, to New Regency with McG attached to produce and possibly direct, will pen the adaptation based on Radical Publishing’s 5-issue comic book series, Freedom Formula: Ghost of the Wasteland, written by Edmund Shern, CEO of Radical’s Singapore based sister company, Storm Lion.

This is Radical Pictures’ second development deal, following Universal Pictures and Spyglass Entertainment releasing Hercules: The Thracian Wars, based on the 5-issue comic book series by Steve Moore, with Peter Berg producing and potentially directing through his production company Film 44 with Ryan Condal (Ocean) scripting

New Regency, Singer’s Bad Hat Harry Productions and Radical Pictures will produce Freedom Formula with Bryan Singer and Radical Publishing’s President and Publisher Barry Levine as producers along with Radical Publishing’s Executive Vice President Jesse Berger and Zoom Entertainment’s Michael Zoumas signed on as Executive Producers. Edmund Shern will be an Associate Producer.

When asked to comment, Barry Levine stated “Mike Finch came up with an incredible take that goes deeper into the mythology of the source material.”

Jesse Berger continues “There is something very contemporary about a revolution and Freedom Formula’s adaptation for the screen will explore those concepts as well.”

Radical Publishing, Radical Pictures, Barry Levine, and Jesse Berger are represented by Alexis Garcia and Adam Levine with Endeavor Talent Agency and are managed by David Schiff and The Schiff Company.

Bryan Singer and Bad Hat Harry are represented by Dave Wirtschafter and Mike Eisner with William Morris Agency and attorney David Feldman.

Freedom Formula: Ghost of the Wasteland issues #1 - 5 are available to order through Diamond Comic Distributors.

Rick Remender masterminds the Last Days of American Crime for Radical Publishing

February 5th, 2009 – What if the U.S. government perfected a broadcast signal that could extinguish criminal thoughts? If you were a grifter with only 10 days before the signal went live, you’d find the crime of the century that you’d been planning suddenly transformed into the last crime in American history—if you can pull it off.

Radical Publishing is proud to announce its newest title for 2009, The Last Days of American Crime. Created and written by fan-favorite comics scribe Rick Remender, the series represents Radical’s first foray into the crime genre. Issue #1 hits the stands later this year, with illustrations by new breakout artist Greg Tocchini.

"The Last Days of American Crime is a story I've been itching to scratch for a few years now,” Remender says. “Fans of my creator-owned books Fear Agent or XXXombies will be right at home with this one. And Greg Tocchini is a powerhouse, one of the best artists I've ever worked with, a true future superstar. Radical is a perfect home for the project, so I'm having a blast."

Radical President and Publisher Barry Levine added, “As a longtime fan of the crime genre, I’m really excited by this. Rick presented me a premise that is so full of suspense and great action that I jumped on board immediately. Besides an amazing story, Greg’s art is just incredible—he’s exactly the kind of great young artist that I love discovering for our books.”

More details on The Last Days of American Crime will be revealed at Radical Publishing’s New York Comic-Con panel on Saturday, Feb. 7, at 5:15 p.m. in Room 1A07.

RADICAL WINS DIAMOND’S GEM AWARD FOR BEST NEW PUBLISHER

Radical wins Diamond’s Gem Award for Best New Publisher

February 3rd, 2009Radical Publishing is proud to announce that they have been awarded New Comic Book Publisher of the Year for 2008 by Diamond Comics Distribution, the major comic book distributor in North America. Voted on by the comic book store retailers, based on overall impact on the industry, sales performance, quality and creativity, the Gem Awards represent Diamond's annual recognition of outstanding suppliers in the comic book specialty market.

“To say that I am extremely proud of this award is an understatement,” said Radical’s President and Publisher Barry Levine. “It validates all the hard work and long hours that everyone involved with the company has put in for both launching and running Radical.”

The 19th annual awards recognized Radical for its publications of Hercules: The Thracian Wars and Caliber: First Canon of Justice, the company’s two flagship titles that debuted in May to sellout performances; along with the follow-up titles Freedom Formula: Ghost of the Wasteland and City of Dust: A Philip Khrome Story, both of which garnered rave reviews, and the deluxe hardcover publication Mateki: The Magic Flute, from international storytelling sensation Yoshitaka Amano.

Both Hercules: The Thracian Wars and Caliber: First Canon of Justice have already been collected into hardcover omnibus editions; a City of Dust: A Philip Khrome Story collected edition, from celebrated horror writer Steve Niles (30 Days of Night), has already been scheduled, as has a sequel to the hit Hercules series, once again from veteran scribe Steve Moore and art contributions by comics legend Jim Steranko. All of Radical’s titles have featured painted artwork on deluxe, glossy paper, with some of the highest production values in the industry. Many of Radical’s titles have already garnered the interest of Hollywood, with noted directors and producers such as John Woo, Peter Berg, and Bryan Singer attached.

“I started Radical Publishing with the commitment to releasing only the best books in terms of both story and illustration,” Levine said. “Given that we were only in business for eight months for 2008 with just five titles, we definitely achieved that, and will continue to do so for this year and beyond. I want to thank all the retailers not only for their votes, but also for their overall support for this relatively new company. I would also like to thank the press for their write-ups for all of our books and to the comic fans who purchase and read them.”

Current series from Radical include Shrapnel: Aristeia Rising, a space opera that has received uniformly stellar reviews in both the industry and mainstream press, as well as Hotwire: Requiem for the Dead, from fan-favorite creators Steve Pugh and Warren Ellis, which the Philadelphia Daily News just hailed as “lightning in a bottle” and received its “highest possible recommendation.”

Upcoming titles include Aladdin: Legacy of the Lost, a dark and epic retelling of the famous fable with art by Radical’s exclusive artist Patrick Reilly and story by Ian Edginton; FVZA: Federal Vampire and Zombie Agency, being written by David Hine; and The Last Days of American Crime created and written by Rick Remender.

Radical’s Shrapnel an explosive hit with the critics

Radical’s Shrapnel an explosive hit with the critics

January 28th, 2009 – Released in early January, Radical Publishing’s newest title, SHRAPNEL: ARISTEIA RISING, has quickly garnered rave attention from retailers, reviewers and fans.

Co-created by Mark Long and Nick Sagan, SHRAPNEL represents Radical’s biggest publishing commitment to date, with the first of three miniseries, ARISTEIA RISING, written by M. Zachary Sherman and painted by Bagus Hutomo. The Jan. 19 edition of The Philadelphia Daily News offers glowing support for the series, concluding: “If you want a book that's different, with a heroine to root for, that reads and looks like a film and that packs a whopping 48 pages in between its covers for only $1.99, SHRAPNEL: ARISTEIA RISING No. 1 is for you."

“We made our biggest commitment to release SHRAPNEL, and I’m just as excited about the series now as when Mark and Nick first showed it to me,” says Radical Publishing’s President and Publisher Barry Levine. “The overwhelming response from just the first issue is amazing. And from having read the story, I know that readers are going to want to stay with this for the long haul.”

“The reaction to the book, for me at least, was completely unexpected,” Sherman adds. “I'm very excited to see the response that it’s getting. Mark and Nick's vision of a dystopian future with a universe at war was one I saw in my head immediately, and it’s been a pleasure to contribute to that.”

Other reviews for SHRAPNEL: ARISTEIA RISING include:

"Hardcore science fictions fan should not miss this." --IGN

"Intense and intelligent story partnered with art that makes your eyes drool." --Ain't It Cool News

"It is, in a word, epic." --The Scoop

"What a great book! Radical hits another one out of the park with this 48-page premiere issue." --Comic Book Page

"Overall Grade: A. SHRAPNEL delivers a high octane future war story with characters that you want to know. Run out to your local store and get this book." --Comics And...

"Honestly, this is one the best books I've reviewed." --Comics Bulletin

"SHRAPNEL epitomizes everything that sci-fi comics should be." --Twelve Fingers

"This is a great beginning to a sci-fi comic series." --Project Fanboy

"People looking for science fiction, especially with a bit of a harder edge, should check this one out." --Comixtreme

“The reviews have been great, but what I find most satisfying is that the reviewers have recognized Zack’s more subtle, political themes of the series and the bold departure of Kai’s art,” says Long. Adds Sagan, “It’s gratifying that SHRAPNEL is being received so well, and I’m very happy that all the hard work that went into it is shining through.”

LA TIMES GETS RADICAL WITH BARRY LEVINE

Los Angeles Times Gets Radical with Barry Levine

December 13th, 2008 – The career of Radical Publishing’s President and Publisher Barry Levine remains unlike any other in the entertainment industry—so extraordinary that The Los Angeles Times recently sat down with him to discuss his storied past and future plans for Radical, which scored overwhelming success in its breakout year of publishing, including film deals with John Woo, Peter Berg and Bryan Singer.

Working his way up from the streets to become one of the rock industry’s premier photographers, Levine regularly shot marquee talents like KISS, The Beatles, Motley Crue, Aerosmith, Elton John and Queen. While Barry could have stayed at the top of the rock photography world, he continued to seek bigger challenges and sought them by going into film. He became music supervisor for such movies as Judge Dredd, Street Fighter, Die Hard With A Vengeance and the Best Picture Oscar-winner Driving Miss Daisy.

Not content to simply work on films from other executives, he launched a career as a producer himself, with a first-look deal in the comics-to-film entertainment division of Dark Horse, the largest independent comics publisher in North America. During his three-year tenure, he set up nine Dark Horse properties as film or television projects with nearly every major studio, including Universal, Sony, Paramount/MTV Films, Warner Bros. and Disney/Miramax.

Levine continued to show that he moves to the beat of his own drum when he unveiled Radical Publishing, his own comics line, at the 2007 San Diego Comic-Con, showcasing the style of artwork that would become the signature look of the company. The first issues of its 2008 debut titles, Hercules: The Thracian Wars and Caliber: First Canon of Justice, rapidly sold out and went to second printings, eventually receiving hardcover collected editions. Yoshitaka Amano’s Mateki: The Magic Flute followed a month later, released as an oversized hardcover graphic novel to a worldwide audience for the first time.

Radical later added two more titles, Freedom Formula: Ghost of the Wasteland and City of Dust: A Philip Khrome Story, to rave reviews in both the industry and mainstream press. The company will enter 2009 with two more major releases, including Hotwire: Requiem for the Dead, from celebrated industry veterans Steve Pugh and Warren Ellis, and Shrapnel: Aristeia Rising, from Zombie Studios President Mark Long and Nick Sagan, the popular sci-fi novelist and son of famed astronomer Carl Sagan. Radical will also unveil the finale of City of Dust: A Philip Khrome Story from fan-favorite writer Steve Niles (co-creator of the blockbuster 30 Days of Night), as well as launch a Hercules sequel, with contributions from comics legend Jim Steranko.

“Barry has had an interesting career to say the least and starting Radical was an entirely natural progression for him considering his love for storytelling,” said Radical Vice President Jesse Berger. “He's producing projects in the literary world that bend against the norm, but with tremendous success, so it's no surprise that the L.A. Times would want to tell his story. I'm thrilled that it's given him such a high-profile forum in which to do it.”

The Los Angeles Times article, which appears as a cover story for its Calendar entertainment section in the Saturday, Dec. 13th edition, can be found below.

Arthur Suydam Covers Radical’s Shrapnel: Aristeia Rising #2

December 26th, 2008 – Standing tall atop the carnage below, Shrapnel’s Samantha Vijaya has never looked more triumphant or sexier thanks to a painted cover by artist Arthur Suydam. The fan-favorite illustrator has provided the latest image for SHRAPNEL: ARISTEIA RISING #2, following his acclaimed cover work for Radical Comics on Hercules: The Thracian Wars and City of Dust: A Philip Khrome Story.

“Arthur always delivers when it comes to creating great covers, and this is no different,” said Barry Levine, President and Publisher at Radical. “Going into issue #2 of Shrapnel: Aristeia Rising, we definitely wanted a strong image of Samantha, and I knew that Arthur would be the artist to portray that. What he created is simply amazing, and a wonderful addition to our library of great covers.”

An award-winning writer and artist, Suydam's work has appeared in publications from Marvel, Heavy Metal, Image, Epic Illustrated, Penthouse and National Lampoon, including the blockbuster Marvel Zombies series (Spike Scream Award for Best Artist and Comic of the Year). He’s also worked on an wide array of the top properties in the comics industry, including Batman, X-Men, Wolverine, Fantastic Four, Ghost Rider, Predator, Aliens, Army of Darkness, Tarzan, Conan and Red Sonja.

His short story Christmas Carol was chosen for inclusion in The Mammoth Book of Horror and Legends for Best Comic Horror Stories of All Time and The Art of Painted Comics (2008). Recently honored with inclusion in Spectrum 14: The Best in Contemporary Fantastic Art, Suydam was also granted the prestigious Gold Award in Spectrum 12 (2006), the San Sebastian Film Festival Lifetime Achievement Award, a Lifetime Achievement Award from the University of Maryland and numerous fan-favorite awards around the globe.

In addition, Suydam also illustrates for the mass market with select projects that include Hard Case Crime, in which he provides retro-inspired covers for such titles as the noir pulp great Mickey Spillane's newly released Dead Street, Robert Bloch's Shooting Star, Fright by Cornell Woolrich and more.

SHRAPNEL: ARISTEIA RISING #2 appears in the December 2008 Diamond Previews catalogue and will ship in February 2009 with two covers: one by Suydam (Diamond Code: DEC084205) and one by Gerhard Mozsi (Diamond Code: DEC084206)

Steve Pugh and Warren Ellis Charge Up Radical’s Hotwire

Steve Pugh and Warren Ellis Charge Up Radical’s Hotwire

December 17th, 2008 – Ghosts. The cities of the future have grown ankle-deep in them as they graze off the electromagnetic waste of a billion wireless Internet connections. Most can only drift, witless and lost. Rarely, though, something comes through with enough marbles to cause real trouble. And that's where Alice Hotwire, Detective Exorcist, comes in.

Radical Publishing proudly presents its newest title for February 2009, HOTWIRE: REQUIEM FOR THE DEAD. Written and illustrated by Steve Pugh, based on an original story by Warren Ellis, the four-issue mini-series takes place in a near-future when ghosts, or “blue lights”, roam the city streets. Most remain harmless...until a break-in at London's Maximum Security Necropolis triggers a surge of violent, brutal hauntings.

Enter Alice Hotwire, the local police force's resident Detective Exorcist—a job her fellow officers hate her for. It's a responsibility she doesn't want, in a world she doesn't understand, but she may be the only one who can save them all from ectoplasmic catastrophe.

“When our Editor-in-Chief Dave Elliott brought the project to me, I knew I wanted this to be part of Radical’s library,” said President and Publisher Barry Levine. “Steve Pugh’s artwork is incredible, and the Alice character is equal parts beautiful and scrappy. The story itself is the perfect blend of supernatural, science fiction and adventure. I see this as one of our biggest new titles of 2009.”

The series has been a major project for Pugh as well, after years of development and collaboration with longtime colleague Warren Ellis.

“It’s been an enormous project, but I’ve been determined to get Alice into print for years, and I’m actually pleased it’s taken this long, because artistically, I think I’m at the top of my game,” Pugh said. “It's only through utter arrogance and ridiculous self-belief that I could rewrite a story by one of the most famous comic writers in mainstream publication.”

Hotwire: Requiem for the Dead #1 appears in the December 2008 Diamond Previews catalog, to ship February 2009. The first issue hits the stands with four covers, including art by Steve Pugh (Diamond Code: DEC084201), Alan Brooks (Diamond Code: DEC084202), Stjepan Sejic (Diamond Code: DEC084203) and a limited edition variant from Luis Royo (Diamond Code: DEC084204), offered as a 1:10 incentive.

Bryan Singer revs up for Radical’s Freedom Formula

Bryan Singer revs up for Radical’s Freedom Formula

July 25th, 2008, LOS ANGELES – Radical Publishing is proud to announce that Bryan Singer, director of X-Men, X-Men #2, and Superman Returns has signed on to produce Freedom Formula: Ghost of the Wasteland based on Radical Publishing’s Freedom Formula, written by Edmund Shern. This is the third film deal by Radical Publishing, following the announcements of John Woo being attached to direct Caliber and Peter Berg producing and developing to direct Hercules.

Freedom Formula: Ghost of the Wasteland #1 of the 5 issue miniseries makes its debut at the San Diego Comic-Con and will be available in stores on August 6th. Singer’s Bad Hat Harry Productions and Radical Pictures will produce Freedom Formula with Bryan Singer and Radical Publishing’s President and Publisher Barry Levine as producers. Radical Publishing’s Executive Vice President Jesse Berger, Edmund Shern, Alex Garcia and Michael Zoumas are signed on as Executive Producers.

“Creator Edmund Shern and I spoke about finding a property that originated in the Asian market, but was easily adaptable as a North American property. All he did was show me one image of the mecha, one paragraph of its characters and the world, and I green-lit it immediately” explains Barry Levine.

Set in the future, Freedom Formula is a modern day Top Gun, where racing exosuits replace the classic, high flying fighter jets, establishing a dangerous new breed of illegal racing. The story follows a genetically engineered racer who discovers that his bloodline possesses the power to change society. Through a series of cataclysmic events, our protagonist comes face to face with his destiny and a means for revolution.

Edmund Shern adds “Freedom Formula is a story that explores the misnomer of absolute freedom and realizing what’s important is not the choices we can make, but the choices we do make.”

Radical Publishing, Radical Pictures, Barry Levine, and Jesse Berger are represented by Alexis Garcia and Adam Levine with Endeavor Talent Agency and managed by David Schiff with The Schiff Company.

Bryan Singer and Bad Hat Harry are represented by Mike Eisner with William Morris Agency and attorney David Feldman.

Steve Niles Joins Radical’s Comic-Con Panel and Signing Schedule (Radical Booth #2806)

Steve Niles Joins Radical’s Comic-Con Panel and Signing Schedule (Radical Booth #2806)

July 15th, 2008, LOS ANGELES – A chilling vision of the future unveils a world where the police now patrol for crimes of the imagination. Religious beliefs, along with any tales of false heroes, idols or gods, are illegal. Called to duty to stop a murder spree, Detective Philip Khrome finds himself face to face with killers born of grim reality with old world superstition and everything is not what it seems.

While looking to develop a new titles outside of the Hercules and Caliber genres,Radical Publishing was approached by Steve Niles who wanted to bring to life a deftly mix of science fiction and horror in a thrilling new miniseries called, City of Dust. To promote Radical’s upcoming October release, Steve Niles will not only sign free promotional books of City of Dust, but will also take part in Radical Publishing’s Comic-Con panel on Friday, July 25th from 2:30 P.M. to 3:30 P.M. in Room 10. City of Dust #1 of 5 will be a 48 page prestige format comic retailing for $3.99. Subsequent issues will be 28 page comics retailing for $2.99

CITY OF DUST blew me away,” exclaimed Barry Levine, Radical Publishing’s President and Publisher. “I love the concept behind Niles’ dark, desperate, dystopian world and the characters that inhabit it. Detective Philip Khrome is a conflicted soul as only Steve can deliver. Radical is going big with this, we’ve commissioned covers from artists like Arthur Suydam, Clint Langley and Lucio Parrillo to kick off the first issue and expect our fans to reap the benefits from our unique promotional events for this title. It all starts at Comic-Con with our preview book. I’m so happy to see Steve on board, not only for signing, but to join the names of Jim Steranko and Ian Edginton for our Comic-Con panel.”

In discussing Radical Publishing, Steve Niles states, “The artwork is what attracted me. Barry(Levine) sat me down and let me look at these artists and I was like ‘I can do a book that looks like this? -- I’m in, and that’s what triggered the idea of CITY OF DUST. I’m really excited about this whole thing. I love the way they work. They’re REALLY accommodating. I’m so over committed, it’s not even funny, after years of rejection I can’t say no to anything, but Barry has been so accommodating to that, putting the project ahead of the schedule and I really appreciate that. Radical gives me breathing space and I think it’s panning out. The double-sized first issue is representative of that. They want perfection on every page with the art and I’m happy they do because the end result is beautiful.”

Steve Niles will be signing at the Radical Publishing booth at the following times below.

Jim Steranko Joins Radical’s Comic-Con Panel and Signing Schedule

Jim Steranko Joins Radical’s Comic-Con Panel and Signing Schedule

July11th, 2008, LOS ANGELES – With the recent addition of Yoshitaka Amano to their signing schedule, Radical Publishing is now extremely proud to announce that award winning comic book writer-artist-historian, graphic artist, publisher and film production illustrator Jim Steranko will be at the San Diego Comic-Con 2008, exclusively for Radical Publishing. In addition to signing both Friday and Saturday, Jim Steranko will also be part of the Radical Publishing Comic-Con panel on Friday, July 25th from 2:30 P.M. to 3:30 P.M. in Room 10.

“I don’t think it gets any bigger than having Jim Steranko along with Yoshitaka Amano on board for Comic-Con 2008” states Radical Publishing’s President and Publisher, Barry Levine. “I’m also excited over the fact that Steranko is part of our Comic-Con panel, and I greatly encourage everyone to attend. We are going to have some big announcements during Comic-Con week in addition to our FREE raffle and soon to be released signing schedule. “

In addition to providing covers for issue #1 and #2 of Hercules: The Thracian Wars, Steranko also designed the Hercules character and provided the title logo. Besides signing issue #1’s and #2’s, Radical is providing a special sketch cover of Hercules: The Thracian Wars #1 which is limited to 500 copies, a limited edition Hercules t-shirt, and a large poster size print of his cover for Hercules issue #1.

"I've been fortunate over the years to have worked for many publishers and been in a position to pick and choose," says Jim Steranko. "My prime criterion is quality, for which there is no substitute, and that's one of the key aspects that impressed me about Radical's production, and then, there's the material. When they revealed their plan to reinvision Hercules, the quintessential hero, I knew they had to generate a treatment that breathed new life into the character—and that treatment was delivered by Steve Moore. It's an extraordinary moment in comics history and I'm pleased to have played a small part in it."

Jim Steranko will be signing on Friday, July 25th and Saturday, July 26th at the Radical Publishing booth.

Radical announces 2nd printing of Hercules #1 and Caliber #1

July 8th, 2008, LOS ANGELES – Released on April 30th to critical acclaim, Hercules: The Thracian Wars #1 and Caliber: First Canon of Justice #1 has been a big hit with both retailers and fans. Despite efforts to satisfy the public with extra copies of Hercules and Caliber printed in case of a sellout, the demand for more continues to grow. Because of this, Radical Publishing is pleased to announce that a 2nd printing is on the way for both titles.

Barry Levine, Radical Publishing President and Publisher notes, “In the past week while promoting our upcoming issue #3’s of Hercules and Caliber, we have received numerous calls and emails from both fans and retailers alike, wondering if we are going to do a second print on our issue #1’s. We’ve heard the message loud and clear and are pleased to say that a second printing of both titles are underway. Being a new publisher, I’m sure many retailers didn’t expect the kind of sales our titles would produce. As a result, a lot of people under ordered and were unable to place reorders due to the overwhelming demand. These limited quantity second printings will enable fans who have missed out the first time around to see how both these epics began.”

Both Hercules: The Thracian Wars #1 2nd print and Caliber: First Canon of Justice #1 2nd print will retail for $2.99 and are available to order from Diamond Comics Distributors. Each cover has its own Diamond order code to provide retailers the choice in the amounts of each cover variant they want. John Bolton and Tomm Coker get Radical for July

John Bolton and Tomm Coker get Radical for July

May 30th, 2008, LOS ANGELES – For issue #3 of Hercules and Caliber solicited for July 2008 in Diamond’s May Previews, Radical wanted to assign one special artist to each of the covers. After searching for the perfect fit, Radical Publishing is proud to announce that award winning British artist John Bolton is providing a cover for Hercules: The Thracian Wars #3 and director/writer/artist Tomm Coker is providing one for Caliber: First Canon of Justice #3.

“Getting John Bolton and Tomm Coker respectively for Hercules and Caliber couldn’t have been a better choice.” stated Barry Levine, Radical Publishing’s President and Publisher. “John knows a thing about a character such as Hercules, having done Robert E. Howard’s Kull the Barbarian for Marvel years ago, as well as his Marada, the She-Wolf he co-created with Chris Claremont. I really love how he brings across the glory of battle in this one scene. Tomm’s cover for Caliber is just beautiful. With Arthur on the run in the Telacoma winter countryside for issue #3, this cover brings an iconic look to Lance that fits Sam Sarkar’s story.”

Tomm Coker adds, “Creating the Caliber cover was a real challenge -- trying to envision a character as classic and recognizable as Lancelot in a completely different time and world -- I can't wait to see where the rest of the story leads."

Hercules: The Thracian Wars #3 (DCD# MAY084083) is featured in May 2008 Diamond Previews catalogue and will ship in July of this year. Hercules: The Thracian Wars #3 will ship with two covers, one by John Bolton for cover A and one by Svetlin Velinov of Imaginary Friends Studios for cover B. Cover A will ship in 3:1 ratio to cover B.

Caliber: First Canon of Justice #3 (DCD# MAY084082) is featured in May 2008 Diamond Previews catalogue and will ship in July of this year. Caliber: First Canon of Justice #3 will ship with two covers, one by Tomm Coker for cover A and one by Stanley “Artgerm” Lau of Imaginary Friends Studios for cover B. When Amano showed me the pages for Mateki: The Magic Flute, I knew immediately that this deserved a world wide release and I wanted it to be a part of Radical Books. In addition, the whole Radical team is honored to have Amano stopping by our booth and signing Saturday during the Comic-Con show. We have a huge lineup this year and expect to see more announcements like this in the coming months.”

MATEKI is a beautiful and dark tale of a young man who must put away his flute to become a warrior so he may save his lover from the lord of darkness. Mateki: The Magic Flute is a fantasy story told by an artist known around the world for his work on Vampire Hunter D, Neil Gaiman’s Sandman: The Dream Hunters, and the Final Fantasy games. In discussing Mateki: The Magic Flute in a recent interview, Amano explained

“The story itself is so well known, I don’t think I need to repeat it here. What actually attracted me most is the music Mozart wrote. Even though I knew the story from the accompanied texts, just listening to music gave me an inspiration of making it more like a ballet sequence, without words but the movements of images.”

Edmund Shern of Imaginary Friends Studios provides the English adaptation and the supervision for the design of this magical volume.

Yoshitaka Amano’s Mateki: The Magic Flute is featured in April 2008 Diamond Previews catalogue and will ship in June of this year. Yoshitaka Amano’s Mateki: The Magic Flute has a Diamond order code of APR084071.

Steve Niles’ KHROME becomes a CITY OF DUST

Steve Niles’ KHROME becomes a CITY OF DUST

May 1st, 2008, LOS ANGELES – Marc Patten of Destination Entertainment said, "Shortly after I began publicity for my new sci-fi fantasy adventure series entitled, Khrome with art by Marlin Shoop and Mark Sparacio, a fellow creator brought it to my attention that Radical Comics was producing a series with the same name. I contacted creator Steve Niles to see if we could work something out, and he couldn't have been nicer." Marc went to say, "they agreed to give me back the title Khrome leaving me free and clear to continue using the name I'd created over ten years ago. Radical is producing top quality comics that will put them on the entertainment map. I can't wait to read them."

Set in the not too distant future where imagination is discouraged and religion is outlawed, Radical Comics offers a preview of Steve Niles’ City of Dust in the Free Comic Book Day Imaginary #1. However, when folks open up Imaginary #1, they will see the book under its previous title, Khrome.

“The reason for the change is simple,” explains, Barry Levine, Radical’s President and Publisher. “Shortly after going to press, Steve Niles contacted me and informed me that someone named Marc Patten had developed his own, different project which also went by the name, Khrome. We both agreed in keeping Philip Khrome as the name for the main character, but would change the title to respect Marc’s work. When Steve came back to me with the new title, City of Dust, I immediately loved it. It fit the theme of the story perfectly.”

Steve Niles adds, "I strongly believe in creator rights, as does Radical, and when push came to shove doing the right thing outweighed anything else. As soon as I heard about the other book I phoned Dave and Barry and we all agreed to change the name. There was no hesitation and I knew I was working with good people."

Set for release in September, 2008 and to be listed in the July edition of Diamond Previews, City of Dust is written by Steve Niles with artwork by Zid of Imaginary Friends Studios and published by Radical Comics. The sci-fi series from the dark mind of the creator of 30 Days of Night comes a story set in the aftermath of our world's collapse. Records show the Earth once known was consumed by religious wars spurred by the suppression of free thought and where creative expression is now viewed as the rot and infestation of the mind. This chilling vision of the future unveils a world where the police now patrol for crimes of the imagination, or Mind Crimes as their called. Those beliefs, along with any tales of false heroes, idols or gods, are illegal. The world is anew and so the enemy adapts. Special detective Philip Khrome doesn't enforce Imagination, instead he works in homicide; that’s where the action is, and he has seen it all before. But criminals evolve and the world is forever changing. When a killing spree hits his department, Khrome finds himself face to face with a perpetrator who has merged reality with superstition. The world everyone is accustomed to is flipped upside down and everything is no longer what it seems.

RADICAL ANNOUNCES JIM STERANKO COVERS FOR HERCULES

Radical announces Jim Steranko covers for Hercules

April 22nd, 2008, LOS ANGELES – Radical Publishing is proud to announce that legendary, award winning artist Jim Steranko has provided covers for issue #1 and #2 of Hercules: The Thracian Wars. Steranko also designed the Hercules character and created the logo that is being used on all issues of Radical’s Hercules. For issue #2 of Hercules: The Thracian Wars, Jim Steranko’s cover is a homage to the popular 1968 Incredible Hulk King-Sized Special #1 cover. The story of Hercules: The Thracian Wars is described as:

Three thousand two hundred years ago, a tormented soul walked the Earth that was neither man nor god. Hercules, powerful son of the god king Zeus, received nothing but suffering his entire life. After twelve arduous labors and the loss of his family, this dark, world-weary soul turned his back on the gods finding his only solace in bloody battle. Over the years he warmed to the company of six similar souls, their only bond being their love of fighting and the presence of death. These men and woman never question where, why, or whom they go to fight, only how much they will be paid. Knowing this, the King of Thrace has hired these mercenaries to train his men to become the greatest army of all time. However, Hercules begins to question King Cotys' motives when he takes his army out to battle and sees them practice on innocent men, women, and children. Deep in his soul something stirs, but is it enough to stop a mad king and his army of the damned from marching across Greece or even Olympus itself?

“Obviously, we are very honored to have Jim Steranko, a legend in this business, to provide not only these two gorgeous covers but to have helped shape our Hercules character using his vision and expertise,” stated Radical Publishing President and Publisher, Barry Levine. “This, combined with the designs and interior artwork of Imaginary Friends Studios based on Steve Moore's epic adventure, creates a unique Hercules that no one has ever attempted to bring to life.”

In discussing his cover for issue #1 of Hercules: The Thracian Wars, Jim Steranko explains,

"The series' story takes place after the Labors, we felt the traditional action approach would be a cliche. The Radical version is different from all other comics' versions and I felt my cover should underscore that quality. So, instead of casting it in spine-cracking action, I did the opposite: I visualized a silently inert, fearsomely intense Hercules, a Hercules just before the storm, a moment crackling with tension! I deliberately hid his face in shadow--except for a slash of light across one eye that reveals his fierce, tortured, inner emotions."

Hercules: The Thracian Wars #1 (DCD# MAR083922) is featured in March 2008 Diamond Previews catalogue and will ship in May of this year. Hercules: The Thracian Wars #1 will ship with two covers, one by Jim Steranko for cover A and one by Admira Wijaya and Sunny Gho of Imaginary Friends Studios for cover B. Cover A will ship in 3:1 ratio to cover B.

Hercules: The Thracian Wars #2 (DCD# APR084073) is featured in April 2008 Diamond Previews catalogue and will ship in June of this year. Hercules: The Thracian Wars #2 will ship with three covers, one by Greg Broadmore of WETA Workshop, one by Admira Wijaya and Sunny Gho of Imaginary Friends Studios, and a limited edition cover by Jim Steranko (DCD# APR084074) that is available as a 1-in-20 retailer incentive.

Radical Publishing set to debut their first titles in May, 2008

Radical Publishing, publicized at last year’s San Diego Comic-Con, has announced the release of Hercules #1 and Caliber #1, for May of 2008. In a bold move to introduce these premiere titles to the public, Hercules #1 and Caliber #1 will be offered in it’s first printing at the low price of $1 while being printed as a 32-page premium stock softbound prestige format package with cardstock covers. “We feel that once the comic buyer gets past buying a book from a brand new publisher and sees the high quality of writing, artistic work and production that Radical offers, that they will look to continue with the series and seek out our other titles,” stated Radical Publishing’s Publisher and Co-founder Barry Levine. “We feel that the $1 price tag of Hercules #1 and Caliber #1 will spur people to make that initial leap.” Issues #2 and the rest of both miniseries will go on sale for $2.99, and both series continue monthly.

Hercules (DCD# MAR083922), which reinvents the popular mythical story of the half man/half god warrior whose only solace lays in bloody battlefields, was visually created for Radical Publishing by the potent combination of Jim Steranko, Imaginary Friends Studios and WETA Workshop (King Kong, Lord of the Rings, and Chronicles of Narnia). Jim Steranko has created the main cover for Hercules #1, as well as a special sketch incentive cover for issue #2, with an exclusive limited run. Hercules is written by Steve Moore, famous for his work in Warrior Magazine, 2000AD and his collaborations with Alan Moore (ABC comics and the novelization of the Wachowski brothers V for Vendetta adaptation).Interior art is being done by the awe-inspiring Imaginary Friends Studios, known for their work for companies such as DC Comics, Electronic Arts, Top Cow, Cartoon Network, WizKids and Upper Deck.

“This isn’t going to be anything like the popular television show of the 1990s. Expect this Hercules to be a dark and conflicted character, more in the epic vein of Frank Miller’s 300; a mixture of myth, legend and historical accuracy,” says Levine. Hercules will run as a 5 issue miniseries, each issue containing 32 pages.

Caliber (DCD# MAR083921) is the unconventional telling of the legend of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table as a Western set in the Pacific Northwest. With all of its great symbolism, magic and spirit of adventure, this tale is that of an engraved six-gun, given to Arthur by an Indian shaman and imbued with supernatural power to fire only by the one who will use its power for the right reasons. “This story doesn’t faithfully follow the Arthurian myth and it is such great fun to see how Sam takes twists and turns leading the reader down a meandering path of thwarted expectations and surprises,” says Levine, “The Magnificent Seven was never like this.” Caliber is created and written by Sam Sarkar, Director of Development at Johnny Depp’s production company, Infinitum Nihil. Imaginary Friends Studios’ artists Garrie Gastonny and Stanley “Artgerm” Lau have created fully-painted cover art for the miniseries, while Gastonny has continued with breathtaking, fully-painted interiors. Caliber will also run as a 5 issue, 32 page miniseries with issue #1 containing 31 pages of interior story, adding an even greater value for a $1 book.

Hercules #1 and Caliber #1 are featured in the March 2008 Diamond Previews and will ship in May of this year. Hercules #1 has a Diamond code of MAR083922 and Caliber #1 has a Diamond code of MAR083921.
